What about HDR and people?

Well unless you have very defined creative purpose do not HDR people. The effect is definitely not pleasing and mostly people will look like sweep or miner! the skin will look like they haven't washed their face for weeks and so if your purpose isn't to make some wild photo of a wild person, do not use HDR on people.

I use HDR only on body painted people or in some cases on masked people!

Word about HDR efects

At HDR as with anything on the world the exaggeration is not a good thing. If we use too much saturation it is not good, if we use too much HDR effects it is bad. With every exaggeration we achieve opposite effect.

So I prefer to take every effect a bit down and make image, that most people don't really know it is HDR. Last Saturday I was in a tea house, where I have an exhibition of my photos, and there was a photographer that said this aren't HDRs are they...

Well my purpose was achieved...

Some other equipment and tips

Some other things that make your life easier.

First thing hasn't change since Ansel Adams and that is we shoot landscape images on tripod!
For 1 shot HDRs you might get away without tripod now and then but  for multiple shots HDR, you need three or five or sometimes even seven same photos with just different exposure. Believe me without tripod you are lost! As everything is connected with money, I'm sorry to say that, but if you want to have a good tripod you will need to spend a bit more money. The prices of good tripods start at about 250$. About the head of tripod you should be aware, that capacity of head should 100% exceed the weight of camera and lens combine, if you want to have peace for some time.

If you want to minimize shaking of camera, use mirror up function which rises mirror a second or so before opening sensor curtain. Remote trigger is your ally as well.

Another thing is not so much connected with costs but your safety:
  • warm dress in winter,
  • water on trips(always but specially in summer),
  • boots near water,
  • spare clothing always!
